Fall Season

Pack a picnic, and  grab your camera. Treat yourself, and the family to a relaxing Sunday afternoon drive to the top of Mt. Mckay this fall.

Shutter bugs and nature lovers are sure to enjoy the scenic winding drive to the top of Mt. Mckay.  The brilliant reds , yellows, and  gold colours of of the autumn season, are matched only by the fragrance of the changing leaves.  Drive slowly, and increase your chances of taking in a little wild life with the kids. Through the thinning trees, grouse, deer, and moose are a few of the animals that can be seen from time to time during the fall season.

July 1st Long Weekend 2008

On the weekend of July First, Fort William First Nation hosts it's annual Pow Wow on top Mt.Mckay.  Everyone is welcome to join us in the Pow Wow circle.  Where the young and young at heart gather from all over North America to dance to the beat of traditional Anishnabek drum groups.

The perimeter of the circle is lined with booths, each boasting of delicious home cooked food,  everything from corn on the cob to the seasonally sought after bannock burger or bannock taco.  You will also delight in the spectacular array of craft goods from local and regional artists.

What you should know before heading up the mountain to participate in the Pow Wow.

1.  The weather can be unpredictable. A bright sunny day can turn cold and windy in a moments notice.  Be sure to bring hats, sun screen, or an umbrella to protect you and the kids from the warm summer sun, as well as an extra layer for warmth if the wind should pick up.

2.  An empty stomach is a must when attending a Pow Wow.  With all the delicious food on the menu,  it's easy to say,  one bannock burger is never enough.

3.  Leave your inhibitions at the foot of the mountain.  Although from time to time, a dance of spiritual significance may take place.  The majority of songs require group participation.  So don't be shy, and feel free to kick up your heals and join us in the Pow Wow  circle.
